Our Story
My love for textile began for me when I was quite young. My Grandmother a great knitter and sewer had recognised my interest and creativity, and gifted me her sewing machine, which I immediately became busy with. I added an overlocker to my tools and got busy at learning how to use my machines to create a variety of work. While my friends were busy going out, I was refining my skills, turning my ideas into garments. I also did work experience with professional labels, and while still at school achieved a state scholastic award for textile design. I found myself mapping out my future as a fashion designer. Despite the accolades I soon became disheartened with the world I was keen to be a part of. The fashion world was being swept up with high turnover, generic cheap knock offs, and loveless items. I could see the love and appreciation in handmade, ethically produced, bespoke items was somewhat a thing of the past. As a result I veered away from the world of textiles and took up my other love, teaching.
It was in conjunction with this new invigoration to create, that I began opening my eyes to the impact we as a society are having our the planet. Fast fashion, green washing and hidden chemicals in products that we not only put on our skin but ones we unknowingly absorb into our bodies and surround ourselves in daily, are severely impacting our health, moral standards as well as the overall future we are carving out for our children. Through educating myself in low tox living it became apparent that I wanted to continue on this journey and incorporate this notion of low tox living in ‘From the Forrest’, and educate those around us by providing healthy, organic, sustainable yet practical solutions and products to nurture our children’s growth. We are committed to providing products that are Earth and eco-friendly.
We support sustainability with high-quality, ethical production and reusable packaging.
Above all we believe all children deserve to be protected and nurtured, waking up to a better world. We ask you to take this journey with us, learn along side us, and enjoy every minute we get with your little people, because as I have been reminded, they are not really ours they are just on loan xxx.
